I’ve lost my RAINER WERNER FASSBINDER virginity by watching WELT AM DRAHT (World on a Wire), his 1973 two-part TV sci-fi drama. Totally brilliant. Almost ten years before BLADERUNNER and and over 25 years before the MATRIX, this tale of worlds-within-worlds and artificial intelligence striving to become human pre-figures them both. I love the bounding energy of the film, and the endless invention of the camera work which makes some of the best use of mirrors I’ve ever seen. Get a copy!
