Thanks to the bloody brilliant byronic for putting me onto the 2007 documentary about HELVETICA (dir. Gary Hustwit)- the font that is so ubiquitous, says one commentator, that it ‘seems like air, it seems like gravity’. It’s terrific. I can truthfully say that I would gladly be stuck in a lift with any of the typographers featured in the movie. Fascinating, eloquent, passionate individuals. My favourite was the wonderful Mike Parker, whose descriptions of his time working on the font in Switzerland have been turned into this Helvetica animation by Evan Shuster on YouTube.
